B. W. May & Son was founded in 1960 by Bert May and his son Len May. They were later joined by Bill Chapell, (Carpentry & Joinery) & Terry Upton (Brickwork) to form B. W. May & Son Limited in 1971.
The idea of joining together was that they could draw on each others pool of skilled operatives to deliver a more effective business within the housing sector.

Following the first consortium in 1971, there were a number of shareholder changes, but most significant was the buy in from the current Managing Director, Andrew Spice in 1988, who was the nephew of the original owner Bill Chapell.

Andrew Spice has been instrumental with the company’s progression over the past two decades, which boasts its own joinery workshop and has approximately 70 employees’.

B W May have tried over the years to employ and train in house operatives in all trades and have been successfull in maintaining a quality work force rather than sub-contracting all work out, which makes us unique in the contruction industry

The company can undertake project’s up to the value of £2,000,000 and manages the different levels of work by operating a Small Works and Main Contracts department.

B W May’s main strength is the number of directly employed operatives; this enables better control and speedy mobilisation on projects, which results in an improved quality of service and product.

Having directly employed operatives is also very attractive to a number of B W May key clients who have rigorous employee vetting processes.

B W May has become one of the most recognised regional contractors in Swale and are currently based in Bobbing near Sittingbourne. The company location is ideally suited to cover a large operating area.

With the success and continued growth achieved over the past decade, BW May existing customer relationships have developed and resulted in larger and prestige projects being delivered.

The building industry is changing at a fast rate and at B W May, we are committed in embracing positive change, so that we can continue to deliver and meet our customer expectations.
